Art demo Tuesday 24/03/2015 Cherie Wheatcroft
'Self-taught, professional artist, Cherie Wheatcroft, came to do a demonstration in oils (on wildlife) to our group on Tuesday eve, March 24th.
She began with a profile of herself, before moving on to the benefits of oils compared to other media and the actual equipment she uses.
Cherie moved on to both the technical side, ie the 'fat over lean' rule and techniques of opacity, transparency, drying and varnishing before discussing
the importance of finding good resource material, whether it be field work, books, zoological parks or with real life i.e. safari being the best then create a realistic,
acurate wildlife list .. read, study, habitat, characteristics, behaviour, attitude, anatomy, lighting before continuing with the demonstration, focusing on the eyes and fur.'
'Cherie is Artist in Residence for the season at Place Mill Heritage Watermill and Gallery, Christchurch Quay, Christchurch from Easter Friday, April 3rd until October 4th.
